It would be great to be able to mark a field as "editable" on the list page. This would allow you to click in the cell on the grid and edit the data without having to click Edit or Inline Edit. Once the field was changed, then maybe you could click a "save" button for the record (I assume something has to happen so it can write back to the DB).
I tried to make the list page open all records in "inline edit" mode on load of the page, but this is really slow. It does get at the functionality I'm looking for, though.
I find my web apps are often replacing someone's spreadsheet and they are used to being able to click in a cell and edit. They complain about all the clicking required to edit in the web app.
The invoice template is a really nice interface that allows quick "edits". This kind of quick response would be great on the grid of a list page.
